- Group Dynamics
- What were the biggest challenges you faced while working in your group?
- Initially the challenges were trying to coordinate with the group about what part each can take. With the set-up of the website I created it, did the logo and layout. For pictures Hannah helped out with the home page and description. From there it was up to the others to input information into their section and I helped where I could, but I did not want to do it for them. I wanted to try help them learn how to add their section.
- How did your group communicate and collaborate during the project? What worked well, and what could have been improved?
- We communicated through instagram chat, which is not ideal but the one chosen by the group. We collaborated with files on our google drive shared folder. We used it for the creation of the website and presentation, but did not use it further for individual assignments.
2. Story Writing
- What difficulties did you encounter while writing your stories?
- It was hard to find the inspiration for writing the stories. I ensured to stick to indigenous art to ensure I was focused on a point and did not struggle with really pin pointing a story. The next difficulty was finding somone for the podcast because I could not find an artist. It was by chance that I went to House #5 at TRU and met Brody, and he saved my assignment.
- How did you decide on the topics and angles for your stories? Were there any disagreements or differing opinions?
- I just chose indigenous topics because if I did need connections or contacts, I knew I would have the best chance for finding them. The group did not discuss what stories they would choose and they did it on their own. I honestly thought that we focused on our own stories and just post them on the website. I also did not want to be trying to help others figure out their assignments because I have learned in previous courses that it can turn into too much dependence on me and I did not want to repeat that. It was best to do my own and ensure I finished my stories because I had other deadlines in courses.
3. Website Design and Functionality
- What features of your website do you feel were most effective in engaging your audience?
- The visual appeal and functionality of the menu was the most effective with engaging with the audience. When we first started this website I knew I did not want to use the theme reccommended to the class because I did not find it visually appealing. To make it more appealing I wanted to add a logo on the top to give our site an identity because it felt odd to not have one.
- Were there any technical challenges you faced while building the website? How did you address them?
- I was locked from accessing the website for a bit and was unsure why I could not have access, but eventually it just resolved itself and I did not have to go to IT.
4. Content Quality
- How would you rate the overall quality of the stories published on your website? What criteria did you use to evaluate this?
- I would rate them moderate quality. There was effort by some of the group to post, but some of them I felt were generated artificially. I evaluated this from knowing the work that I have seen the group members produced before and how they speak. For my stories I felt it was a great learning experience with planning, organizing, and producing a story and I felt that I made some good content from it.
- What feedback did you receive from peers or potential readers about your content?
- I did not receive any feedback from peers or group mates. I only received feedback from the professor or my family who I showed my content to. I thought I received relatively good reviews. There is always room for improvement though. This just started my media journey.
5. Improvements
- If you could make three improvements to your website, what would they be and why?
- I would choose a different theme because there is many more that wordpress offers or you can even buy ones online, but for the purposes of the assignment this one was the best.
- What additional features or content do you wish you had included in your website that could enhance the user experience?
- If this site would become a public resource, I would love to see a member login to create a community of artists and have a contact list of the artists and their speciality for people and businesses to access if they are looking to hire artists for work.
6. Future Goals
- What are your goals for the website moving forward? How do you plan to implement any changes or improvements?
- I do not have any goals for this website, it was for the purposes for this class. It taught me more about what I can plan for my own job and the website I work on my organizations. It was transferrable skills and I really appreciate what I gained from this class.
